This newsletter is coming to you from The Office of Jane & Badger (maybe I should use the Hufflepuff logo with the badger as my royal crest). (FYI for those of you who don’t know, Badger is my dog).
Ohhhh boy… Just when you thought that things couldn’t get any more surreal in the realm of House Sussex. I already had a newsletter half written about Harry and Meghan’s somewhat “interesting” start to 2024 (look for that one next week) but then their new Sussex.com website was launched this week. So that one will have to wait because that website is just begging to be snarked on. So snark I must!
The words that immediately come to mind upon seeing the new website? Grandiose. Pretentious. Hyperbolic. Tacky. Narcissistic. Embarrassing. Cringeworthy. Hilarious. And oh so distinctly “royal.
Some of the “highlights”….
The Royal Crest
Yes, you read that right, Harry and Meghan are now using a ROYAL CREST to promote themselves. It is proudly displayed front and centre on their shiny websites. In case you are wondering, yes this is the same couple who have:
spent the past four years consistently and repeatedly denigrating the British royal family and the monarchy as an institution.
blamed royal life for destroying their mental health and claimed that they had to flee to save their lives.
allegedly loathed every part of royal life and felt trapped.
described the institution as “dark and dirty and couldn’t wait for the day that they were no longer part of it”.
wanted to “carve out a progressive new role” and make a new life for themselves.
Have theoretically distanced themselves in every way from their royal past
live in the US and have absolutely zero official roles as royals
These very same people are now using a Royal. Crest. If you do not find this utterly ridiculous and hypocritical then you’re just not paying attention. And for the record, I’m not up in arms about it - I actually find it funny that they have to resort to royal cosplay. It’s embarrassing that after four years of making it on their own and “building an empire” that their best bet is still to make themselves look royal adjacent.
Oh, and to make matters even worse, it’s not even their joint crest/coat of arms as a couple - it’s one that was created solely for Meghan when she married Harry. And I thought their monogrammed front door mat complete with crown was embarrassing enough…
